2009 H&R Wanderlust Touring Series: Mt. Baker Tour

(Bellingham, Washington)  The Mt. Baker Tour is the gem of our H&R Wanderlust Touring Series, and this year’s event far exceeded our expectations.  The Sunday event began with a glorious summer morning, where enthusiasts of every ilk travelled from far and near to meet at the H&R HQ.  H&R staffers handed out Wanderlust Teutes—filled with stickers, product guides, black H&R emissary flags, collector’s edition H&R postcards, and every Wanderluster’s favorite snack, trail mix.
It was pandemonium in the streets prior to the 9:30 meeting—people and cars kept pouring into the parking lot, vehicles of every sort, in every direction, each color brighter than the last, each wheel sparkling in the sunlight.  The experienced enthusiasts had their precision tuned vehicles dialled with super-low suspension setups—low enough to be in H&R Ultra Low Coil Over territory. You could feel the energy in the air as everyone anticipated a great drive—but that also could have been the black, super-low SRT8 Charger that was rumbling the blacktop.
Though the drive time was only about an hour, the Tour rolled through varied scenery—from flat dairy land divided by the glacial blue waters of the Nooksack River, to ancient cedar forests with abundant flora and fauna, to Alpine summits reached only by maddeningly tight switchbacks.  Before you knew it, the group arrived to the lower parking lot at Heather Meadows to spend the afternoon surrounded by awe-inspiring views, with glacial-cooled air reaching out to embrace us under the bright summer sun.  H&R handed out unique gun-metal grey t-shirts and last year’s Heute recipient was sighted sporting traditional Wanderlust attire.  H&R provided hungry participants with a few authentic Bavarian delicacies—namely Black Forest Ham pretzel-bread sandwiches and jumbo Nutella pretzel rolls.
The event helped us realize the diverse talents of Pacific Northwest tuners— from a Corvette-powered RX7, to a variety of personalized Lexus’s, VW’s, BMW’s, and Mercedes Benz’s—and the great atmosphere fuelled by people hanging out, talking shop, and offering up a bit of love for an exceptional stretch of pavement, made the day.  Talk about the Tuner Lifestyle—everyone was living it at the 2009 Mt. Baker Tour.
