BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON (August 8, 2015) On a cool, summer morning, over sixty cars gathered at H&R Special Spring’s North American headquarters for the annual Mt. Baker Drive. Now in its eighth year, the Baker Drive is part of many H&R Wanderlust events that allow people who share a passion for cars and travel to come together. Participants came from Seattle, Spokane, Portland, British Columbia, and the greater Bellingham area. Volkswagens and Audis took up most of the real estate in the lot, however, there were also some cool Nissans, Hondas, Fords, and a Supra. As take-off time approached, car talk quieted and the air filled with performance car exhaust.
The cruise up to the mountain was great. Sunshine peeked through the trees glimmering onto sporty sedans and hot hatches as they hugged the super tight turns along the highway. As the air got thinner, the trees opened to beautiful mountain views. After about an hour and twenty minute drive time, the lead car rolled into the Heather Meadows parking lot. Bordered by a new 2015 Mustang GT Premium Fastback and a trio of white VW Golfs, the H&R tent was loaded with food, posters, gift bags, and giveaway items – including a 32” TV, Meguiar’s Car Kits, and the coveted H&R Heute. The H&R Heute is a traditional German-style hat that is given away at each Wanderlust event. After grabbing a sandwich and gift bag packed full of H&R swag as well as items provided by University Volkswagen, hoods were popped and mods were envied. Overall, the day was a perfect reflection of the Wanderlust spirit: people showing off their personal style while hanging out with new and old friends, talking about cars, and offering up some love for a great stretch of pavement.
